FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS

Child and Adolescent Therapy: Expression, Connection, and Development

Children and adolescents are not always able to put into words what they are going through. Changes in behavior, difficulties at school, conflicts, fears, irritability, or withdrawal can be ways of communicating that something needs attention. In therapy, we provide a safe and age-appropriate space for them to understand their experiences, express their emotions, strengthen their coping skills, and build new ways of relating to others.

How do we work?

In psychotherapy with children and adolescents, the approach is tailored to each person’s age, developmental stage, and unique way of expressing themselves. Conversations, play, drawings, stories, games, and other tools can open up avenues for understanding experiences, processing emotions, and exploring new possibilities. The process also involves a careful partnership with parents and caregivers.

What shapes our perspective

We understand children and adolescents in the context of the relationships and environments in which they live. Family, school, culture, friendships, and stages of development all shape their experiences. For this reason, behaviours and challenges are not viewed in isolation, but as forms of expression to be understood.

What this means in practice

Sessions draw on resources suited to each child or adolescent’s age and interests. Parents and caregivers participate through periodic conversations in which we share perspectives and develop ways to offer support, while respecting the privacy needed for the therapeutic relationship.

How does the process work?

01

Free initial consultation

A 20-minute conversation with parents or caregivers to briefly understand what has led you to seek therapy, answer your questions, and determine whether our services are a good fit for your family at this time.

02

First sessions

We begin with an initial conversation with the parents or caregivers to better understand their concerns and the child or adolescent’s needs. This is followed by sessions focused on getting to know the young person, their history, relationships, and current challenges.

03

Ongoing sessions

Sessions take place regularly and include age-appropriate resources. We also meet periodically with parents or caregivers to review the process and work together on ways to offer support, while respecting the privacy needed for the therapeutic relationship.
